You drive the pallet in and close the cage. From there you can use it in two ways, and they solve opposite problems: read everything inside, or shut everything outside out. A gate cannot do that second one, and neither can a round with a handheld.
A euro pallet fits with room to spare, with walking space around it to go around it with a handheld.
Two ways of using it

01 / Close it and read
The pallet is inside, the cage closes, and you read the full contents in one go. Useful at inbound or at a check before shipping, where you want to know whether the pallet is complete.
02 / Shut the surroundings out
The shielding works the other way round too. If you walk around the pallet with a handheld, the cage keeps the racking beside it out of the reading. Without that shielding you count the neighbors along and your measurement does not add up.
That second use is what sets the cage apart from an RFID gate or a plain round with a handheld: those cannot stop whatever stands around it from being read along.

The inside height is chosen on the inside height of a standard trailer, so that everything that fits on a truck fits into the cage as well. The dimensions above are derived from those starting points and have not yet been measured on a built cage.
