A handheld is the most versatile piece of hardware in this field: walking rounds, targeted search, recording what goes out, checking a pallet. It reads hundreds of tags per pass and gets warmer as you close in on the object you are after.

Our handhelds read RFID and barcode, so you do not have to retire anything.

What to look at when you choose

Brand and model say less than where the thing gets used. These four questions decide the choice.

Where it gets used
Indoors, outdoors, in the cold or in the rain. That decides the housing and the IP rating
How long at a stretch
A ten minute round asks something different than an eight hour shift
Read range
From half a meter at a counter to several meters along the racking
What else it has to do
Reading only, or barcode, photos and filling in forms as well

What a handheld does and what it does not do

  • Read hundreds of tags per pass, through cardboard and film as well
  • Targeted search: warmer and colder until you have the object
  • RFID and barcode on the same device
  • Come along to the place where the work is

Niet

  • Register on its own: someone has to pick it up and use it
  • Replace a fixed reading point if you want every passage recorded
  • Read reliably on bare metal without a label made for it
  • Give an exact position, only direction and proximity

The limit sits in the action. A handheld registers what someone decides to register; when it gets busy, that gets skipped. If you want to be sure every passage is recorded, you need a fixed reading point and not a better handheld.
